Crazy ATM Project--
#3: The Withdrawal Screen
Fall 1997

All four of the main transaction types -- withdrawal, deposit, transfer, account information -- use a single screen. Whereas current ATMs force the customer to negotiate up to six different screens for one simple transaction, the Crazy ATM interface allows the customer to more easily complete his or her transaction in a fraction of the time.

One of the most compelling aspects of this design is the account information given in the confirmation section. Many customers are concerned about overdrawing funds from their account and, for example, causing their rent check to bounce. If the customer does not know the balance of an account, current ATMs make the customer cancel a withdrawal in the middle of the transaction, perform an account information transaction, and then go back to the withdrawal. This design spares the customer anxiety and helps them manage their accounts more efficiently.
